Brazil’s Petrobras has started production from the FPSO Cidade de Maricá, located in the Lula field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil.
The Cidade de Maricá is a floating, production, storage and offloading unit that produces, stores and transfers oil. The vessel is located at approximately 270 kilometers from the coast, at a water depth of 2,120 meters.
According to Petrobras, with a daily production capacity of up to 150,000 barrels of oil and 6 million cubic meters of gas, this is the seventh major definitive production system in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin.
With this additional unit, the pre-salt layer of the Santos and Campos basins already accounts for 35% of Brazil’s oil production.

Vantrunk as a sub-supplier to MacLean Electrical have been awarded a major contract to supply their world renowned Speedway Cable Ladder system to the GDF SUEZ E&P UK operated Cygnus Gas Project. Vantrunk will supply their Speedway SW6 Ladder complete with accessories in marine grade stainless steel to ensure the system can withstand the harsh North Sea environment. The award cements Vantrunk’s position as the leader in Extreme Cable Management.
The Cable Ladder will be manufactured out of Vantrunk’s 100,000 sq ft facility in Warrington and shipped to Heerema Fabrication Group’s Hartlepool yard in the United Kingdom where fabrication and commissioning of four topsides is taking place.
The Cygnus project, sanctioned in August 2012, is expected to contribute 5% to UK gas production at peak production (due 2016) – supplying gas to the equivalent to 1.5 million homes in Britain. GDF SUEZ E&P UK is the operator of Cygnus, responsible for ensuring that this valuable hydrocarbon resource is extracted and supplied safely and efficiently. Cygnus gas field is situated in the Southern North Sea within UK Continental Shelf blocks 44/12a and 44/11a in 23m of water

Vantrunk has always shown dedication to using new and innovative ways to test its Speedway Cable Ladder and Vantrunk Cable Tray to ensure that they can survive in extreme conditions. To this end, Vantrunk’s engineers recently collaborated with the Aircraft Research Association (ARA) to carry out a series of tests on its products.
The tests were carried out using the same wind tunnels that were used to carry out research on illustrious aircraft such as Concorde as well as the Tornado and Typhoon fighter jets. The purpose of the tests was to demonstrate how Vantrunk’s Cable Tray and Speedway Cable Ladder can survive the ferocious wind speeds and extreme conditions that would be produced by hurricane force winds.
Don’t miss the full test report over the coming weeks.
