Brazil’s Petrobras has started production from the FPSO Cidade de Maricá, located in the Lula field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil.
The Cidade de Maricá is a floating, production, storage and offloading unit that produces, stores and transfers oil. The vessel is located at approximately 270 kilometers from the coast, at a water depth of 2,120 meters.
According to Petrobras, with a daily production capacity of up to 150,000 barrels of oil and 6 million cubic meters of gas, this is the seventh major definitive production system in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin.
With this additional unit, the pre-salt layer of the Santos and Campos basins already accounts for 35% of Brazil’s oil production.
Vantrunk supplied the cable management systems for the water treatment packages built by Veolia includng the Speedway Cable Ladder and Heavy Duty Cable Tray.
Vantrunk, in partnership with Eutex International, have successfully completed supply of our SW6 Speedway Cable Ladder System and Heavy Duty HR Cable Tray system for the OSX-3 FPSO turret mooring system being supplied by SOFEC. The OSX-3 FPSO will be utilized within block BM-C-39 of the Campos Basin, offshore Brazil, on the Tubarão Martelo field. The Speedway Cable Ladder system features fully slotted sidewalls, a unique profile design and integral coupler, all of which help save weight and speed up installation.
OSX is a Brazilian publicly traded corporation that provides solutions for the offshore oil and natural gas industry, by means of integrated operations in shipbuilding, leasing of E&P units and O&M services. Currently, OSX is managing a broad and diversified order book of FPSOs, fixed platforms, special vessels and oil tankers. Since July of 2011, OSX has been building the Açu Shipbuilding Unit (“UCN Açu”), which will be the largest shipyard in the Americas, at the Açu Superport Industrial Complex, located in the São João da Barra Industrial District (RJ), with technology from its partner Hyundai Heavy Industries, the global leader in naval construction. For the implementation of its projects, OSX has already raised more than US$4.7 billion in funding from the financial and capital markets via its IPO, financing and bonds in the international markets. As part of our drive for continuous product advancement, Vantrunk recently introduced the addition of integral couplings on all cable ladder fittings as standard. The Speedlok Integral Coupler reduces the number of fixings required, reduces installation time by up to 67% and provides an overall weight saving.
To highlight the benefit of using Vantrunk's Speedlok Integral Coupler we have designed a calculator designed to show you the potential savings that can be achieved when using the integral coupling system.

Vantrunk continue to lead the way in Cable Management with the launch of our new Expansion & Contraction Calculators. Allowing engineers to calculate the setting gap between lengths subject to expansion and contraction, the calculators are an ideal tool for engineers when installing the Vantrunk Cable Management system. The calculators are available for both Speedway Cable Ladder and Heavy Duty Cable Tray.
To access the calculators please visit the Apps section of our digital toolbox. For more information on expansion on contraction visit the technical sections of our latest catalogue or contact Vantrunk's technical team on email@example.com.
SPECIALIST SOLUTIONS FOR FPSO AND FLNG INSTALLATIONS
Room to Manoeuvre for FPSO and FLNG Installations
FAILURE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE VESSELS’ MOVEMENT WILL RESULT IN CABLE DAMAGE.
CABLE TRAY INTEGRAL FEATURES:
Allowances must be made on cable and support systems installed on FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) and Floating Liquid Natural Gas (FLNG) vessels due to the structural flexing movement over the length of the deck. To cater for the flexing, gaps must be left in the Ladder / Tray support system and cable looping should occur to allow for these expansion and contraction movements.
Vantrunk Extreme Cable Management Systems have provided solutions to help ensure the cables are not compromised once installed.
Solutions such as the use of cable drop outs will prevent the cable outer sheaths chaffing on the cable rung whilst the use of protective end caps will stop damage to the cable by preventing the outer sheath chaffing on the side wall of the cable ladder rack.
